Symptom
IoT monitoring system reports crankshaft vibration exceeding the 3.5mm/s operational threshold on MTU Series 4000 diesel generator sets. Alert type: Anomaly.
Root Cause Analysis
Elevated crankshaft vibration above 3.5mm/s typically indicates:
- Primary: Main bearing wear - the crankshaft main bearing shells have degraded beyond acceptable tolerances due to normal operational wear
- Secondary: Crankshaft position sensor calibration drift - the sensor itself may need replacement to restore accurate readings
Recommended Action
Replace the following components:
- Crankshaft Main Bearing Set (Part: MTU4000-CMB-011) - Complete bearing shell replacement including thrust washers and gasket kit
- Crankshaft Position Sensor (Part: MTU4000-CPS-009) - Replace sensor to ensure accurate post-repair vibration monitoring
Entitlement / Warranty Note
Bearings and sensors are classified as wear parts and are not covered under the standard RRPS service agreement. These components are subject to fair wear and tear billing. A quote should be prepared for customer approval before ordering parts.
